To think, there was once a KFC here. Now there’s Wisdom, an absinthe bar.

If you find yourself in the area, definitely stop by Wisdom and try some absinthe, what they call the “Green Fairy.” Absinthe is an alcoholic beverage that once was portrayed as a dangerously addictive psychoactive drug because it contains the chemical thujone. It was thought to cause drinkers to hallucinate, become violent and drive people crazy.

Though it is now deemed no more dangerous than standard liquor, the 50 and 75 percent alcohol by volume [100 to 150 proof] probably does have people taking off their shirts and spinning it above their heads like a helicopter. If in Mardi Gras looking to get some beads, that’s cool. Anywhere else, stick with the virgin drinks. Some modern Franco-Suisse absinthes are bottled at up to 82% alcohol!
